VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer will look to continue one trend and stop another one when the Bearcats (5-4-2, 0-1 America East) meet UMBCÂ (1-9, 0-1 AE) Thursday night in Baltimore. The teams will kick-off at 6 p.m. from Retriever Soccer Park.
Binghamton is coming off a tough 1-0 setback in its conference opener Sunday in Vermont, despite owning the better of play. With the defeat, BU remains winless on the road in 2018 (0-4-2).
Working in the Bearcats' favor to snap the streak is an 11-2-2 all-time record against UMBC. Binghamton is 6-1-1 all-time at Retriever Soccer Park, though UMBCÂ won the last encounter there - a 3-1 victory in 2016. Last season in Vestal, BU posted a 3-0 win, thanks to goals from senior forward
Kayla Saager, sophomore midfielder
Dora Hayes and sophomore forward
Genna Michitti.Â
Saager leads BU and the America East in goals (8) and points (18). She ranks 14th in the nation in goals.
Junior wing forward
Ryan Reilly has a team-best three assists and five points.
Freshman keeper
Haylee Poltorak owns a conference-best 0.65 goals against average and three shutouts. Poltorak also leads the league with a 85.7 save percentage.Â
UMBCÂ opened conference play with a 1-0 overtime loss at New Hampshire on Sunday. The Wildcats held a wide 19-5 shots cushion and scored the game-winner in the 93rd minute. The team's lone win this season was a 4-3 home win over Mt. St. Mary's last Wednesday.Â
Six different Retrievers have scored goals this season but the team has been outscored 25-9 thu far. The only common opponent has been St. Francis (Pa.), which beat BU 3-0 and defeated UMBC 4-0. The Retrievers returned nine starters and 21 letterwinners from a 4-10-3 team of a year ago and were picked to finish last in the Coaches' Preseason Poll.  Â
