VESTAL, N.Y. – Candace Wright sank a pair of free throws with seven second left in overtime, lifting Vermont to a (7-11, 3-3 AE) to a 58-57 win over Binghamton (7-11, 2-3 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The game concluded the Bearcats' three-game home stand.
Wright's free throws capped a perfect day at the line for the Catamounts as they sank all 13 of their free throw attempts. The Bearcats, by contrast, made only eight of their 17 free throw shots (47.1 percent).
The loss overshadowed junior guard
Kai Moon's return to the court. In her first action since Dec. 17, she scored a career-high 25 points. Moon went 8-for-10 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the three-point arc.
Binghamton appeared be in control of the game when it went up 51-45 on a layup by sophomore forward
Olivia Ramil with 1:36 left in regulation. From, there, however, the Catamouts went on a 7-1 run to force overtime. Josie Larkins tied the game at 52-52 with seven seconds left in the fourth period.
Moon's final points of the afternoon came on a three-point field goal with 1:18 left in overtime, putting the Bearcats up 57-56. The ensuing 1:11 was scoreless until Wright was fouled in the act of jumper with seven seconds left, setting the stage for her winning free throws.
Hannah Crymble finished with a team-high 21 points for Vermont while Wright finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Larkins added 11 points.
Senior guard
Rebecca Carmody had eight points, eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. She entered the game tied for the America East lead with 7.6 rpg.
Ramil scored eight points to go along with five rebounds and a career-high three blocks.
Binghamton shot 7-for-15 from three-point range.
The Bearcats head to UMass Lowell for an 11 a.m. game on Wednesday
