VESTAL, N.Y. - With the regular season winding down, Binghamton women's soccer (8-4-2, 2-2-1 America East) looks to strengthen its postseason position when the Bearcats host Hartford (6-5-1, 3-1 AE). Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.Â
The Bearcats have lost two straight and dropped from first to fifth place in the crowded America East standings. With three regular season games remaining, BU will look to shore up a top-six postseason spot and fight for a home playoff game. Binghamton is just one win out of a share of first place.Â
At Maine on Sunday, BU scored the opening goal before the Black Bears rattled off three straight to pin a 3-1 loss on the Bearcats.
Junior forward
Sarah Dibble scored an unassisted goal in the eighth minute - her second of the season. Junior keeper
Mackenzie Hanna made a career-high 11 saves in her first start of the season.
The Hawks have won three straight games to make a move near the top of the standings. All four of the team's America East games have been 2-1 decisions. After losing its opener to Albany, Hartford has beaten UMass Lowell, Vermont and Maine — with the last two wins coming at home.
Senior midfielder Sierra Stone leads the entire conference with seven assists and ranks second with 13 points. Sophomore back Izzy Lachcik has a team-high four goals.
Hartford holds a commanding 12-5-1 lead in the head-to-head series. The Hawks have won eight of the last nine meetings, including a 3-1 victory last October in West Hartford. Binghamton is 4-4 all-time at home and posted a 3-2 home overtime win over Hartford two years ago. That victory in the regular season finale clinched a share of the America East regular season title for the Bearcats.Â
