Men’s Soccer Loses 1-0 to UMass Lowell

Bearcats hold 10-5 shot advantage but surrender goal in 31st minute

VESTAL, N.Y. – Alejandro Osorio scored in the 31st minute, lifting UMass Lowell (6-2-1, 2-0-0 AE) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (2-6-1, 0-2-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer game on Saturday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The match marked the Bearcats' first conference home contest of the season.

Osorio's goal came off an initial shot by Denis Petro, who fired the ball from the left of the box. Osario was in position to get the rebound and score from close range.

Despite the loss, the Bearcats held a 10-5 shot advantage and held the momentum for most of the second half. Shots on goal were 5-2 Binghamton as River Hawks' goalkeeper Patrick Gujic made all five saves to preserve the win.

"I thought we played very well tonight and just ran out of time," head coach Paul Marco said. "We created a lot of opportunities and we chased the game early on and especially in the second half. It's disappointing to concede the goal and I hope this group finds a way to win a game so that things can start moving our way again."

The Bearcats have started off the conference portion of their schedule against a pair of teams (New Hampshire and UMass Lowell) that have been nationally ranked at some point during the past two seasons.

"We've played two top teams in the conference in New Hampshire and UMass Lowell," Marco said. "Every game is a battle but our team has been right there with them, especially tonight. We have a really good, fun group to work with. They have got great energy amongst the group. We just have to take care of some of the details a little more."

Binghamton hosts Columbia on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in a non-conference match.
