Men’s Soccer Loses 1-0 at Hartford

UPDATE: Bearcats have clinched a berth in the America East Tournament

VESTAL, N.Y. – Nyrik Antoine scored in the 45th minute, lifting Hartford to a 1-0 win over Binghamton in an America East men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at Al Marzook Field. The loss snapped the Bearcats' four game unbeaten streak.

Antoine, who was stationed in front of the goal, finished off a cross from Sergei Martinez with just 56 seconds left before halftime. It was his first goal of the season.

The Bearcats controlled play for the majority of the match, raking up an 18-7 advantage in total shots. In addition, Binghamton held a commanding 11-2 lead in shot on goal.

The difference, however, was Hartford goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton, who recorded a career-high 11 saves to preserve the victory.

Binghamton fought hard in the closing minutes of regulation to tie the match. Slayton, however, made a pair of stops during that stretch. With just under a minute left, the final Bearcat shot of the game hit the post.

"I thought we were pretty good in all facets of the game," head coach Paul Marco said. "We created a lot of chances. We just couldn't put the ball in the goal. I thought Noah Luescher was very good today in creating a lot of offense. Overall, I am pleased with our performance but I am absolutely gutted with the outcome."

Binghamton returns home to face Albany on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in its final regular-season game.

NOTE: By virtue of Stony Brook's 2-1 loss to UMass Lowell, the Bearcats have officially clinched their first berth in the America East Tournament since 2016.
