VESTAL, N.Y. – Kari Brekke scored a game-high 14 points, pacing New Hampshire (6-18, 3-8 AE) to a 54-53 win over Binghamton (9-15, 4-7 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The game marked the Bearcats' annual Play4Kay Game.
Brekke was one of three Wildcat players to reach double figures in scoring. Amanda Torres add 12 points while Caroline Soucy recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Senior forward
Rebecca Carmody finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds to record her seventh double-double of the season as well as the 11th of her career. She also finished with three assists, a pair of blocks and three steals.
Junior guard
Karlee Krchnavi grabbed a game-high and career-best 12 rebounds to go along with six points, a block and a steal. It marked the second time this season and fourth time in her career that she has reached double figures in rebounding.
In a back-and-fourth game that featured 14 lead changes, Carmody's layup with 4:51 remaining gave the Bearcats a 44-43 advantage. From there, however, New Hampshire went on a 7-0 run to go up 51-44 with 51 seconds left to go. Brekke had five of her points during that stretch.
The Wildcats appeared to be in control of the game with a 54-48 lead at the 30-second mark. Freshman guard
Hayley Moore drained a three-point field goal with 21 seconds remaining and freshman forward
Annie Ramil made a layup with just two seconds to go.
Following a pair of New Hampshire free throw misses, the Bearcats were unable to convert a game-winning shot.
Binghamton travels to UMBC on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.
