BALTIMORE, MD. – Courtney Coppersmith threw a six-inning perfect game and drove in three runs, powering UMBC (15-12, 2-1 AE) to an 8-0 win over Binghamton (11-14, 1-2 AE) in an America East softball game on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond at UMBC. With the victory, the Retrievers take the three-game conference series 2-1.
Coppersmith retired all 18 batters she faced, striking out seven batters in the process. She improved her record to 11-6. Coming into the weekend, Coppersmith ranked fourth in the nation with 11.63 strikeouts per game and had a 1.69 ERA.
Offensively, Coppersmith keyed a three-run bottom of the second inning with a two-run single. Three innings later, she doubled and later scored to stretch the lead to 4-0.
UMBC finished off the game with four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Coppersmith recorded her final RBI – a single through the left side – during that frame.
Junior pitcher
