Softball Loses 8-7 at Bucknell

Bearcats rally from early 5-0 deficit but lose in bottom of seventh inning

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Host Bucknell (24-16) scored the winning run on a fielding error in the bottom of the seventh inning and defeated Binghamton (14-22) 8-7 in a non-conference softball game on Thursday afternoon at Becker Field.

Freshman shortstop Marissa Braito and sophomore outfielder Lauren Martinez each drove in a pair of runs for the Bearcats. Martinez and sophomore designated player Hannah Lyons both scored twice.

Down 5-0, the Bearcats came back with four runs in the top of the third inning. Braito had the big hit of the frame with a two-run triple.

The Bison padded the lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the third inning but Binghamton came back with three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up 7-6. Martinez tied the game on a two-run triple and scored the go-ahead run on a single by freshman outfielder Chloe Morgan.

Bucknell, however, tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning. Following two scoreless innings, the Bison took advantage of a Binghamton miscue to secure the walk off victory.

Raeanne Geffert improved to 14-8 with the victory while freshman pitcher Morgan Bienkowski fell to 2-6 with the loss.

Lyons, Morgan and junior catcher Sara Herskowitz each finished with a pair of hits. Herskowitz also drove in a run, which gives her a team-best 26 RBI for the season.

Binghamton heads to Hartford for a three-game America East series. The Bearcats and Hawks will play two games at noon on Friday followed by a single game at noon on Saturday.

NOTES: Braito, who is batting a team-best .336, now has four triples. She is just the ninth player in Binghamton program history to have at least four triples in a season. Kate Richard, who had four triples in 2017, was the most recent Bearcat to accomplish that feat.
