Baseball rolls past Siena 8-1

Trenholm belts 2-run HR; Meduri drives in pair as Bearcats win for seventh time in last nine games

VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior Sean Trenholm belted a two-run home run and Binghamton baseball (21-19) scored runs in five straight innings to topple visiting Siena (15-29) 8-1 in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon at the Bearcats Baseball Complex. The win was BU's seventh in its last nine games.

Binghamton scored single runs in the third and fourth innings and after Siena cut its deficit to 2-1, BU extended it with three runs in the fifth inning - two off the bat of Trenholm. With sophomore center fielder Shane Marshall on third, Trenholm sent the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for his fifth home run of the season.

Up 5-1, BU added a single run in the sixth and then tacked on two more in the seventh - thanks to a two-run double to right center from senior right fielder Anthony Meduri.

Trenholm went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Meduri drove in a pair. Junior third baseman Justin Drpich and sophomore shortstop Jake Evans had two hits and an RBI apiece.

On the hill, BU used six pitchers (Siena used seven) and sophomore starter Luke Dziados (W, 1-3) earned the win with four shutout innings. Dziados allowed just two hits and struck out a pair. Sophomore Chase Borowitz struck out the side in the ninth to close out the victory.

The teams combined to use 40 players in the game.

Binghamton hosts Albany in its second-to-last regular season series this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday and finish with a single game on Sunday. The Bearcats sit in second place in the America East with a 10-6 record and have six conference games remaining before BU hosts the six-team postseason tournament on May 22-25.
