Men’s Soccer Defeated 3-0 at Iona

Gaels erupt for three goals in 11 minutes during second half

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Mauro Bravo finished with a goal and two assists, powering host Iona (2-2) to a 3-0 win over Binghamton (1-4) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at Mazzella Field. The host Gaels scored all of their goals during an 11-minute span early in the second half.

Mauro Bravo opened the scoring in the 53 minute and assisted on Ignacio Antequera-Shanchez' goal just two minutes later. In the 63rd minute, Bravo assisted on Esad Mackic's goal that capped the scoring.

"I thought for most of the match we were okay and in the first half, I thought we looked quite good," head coach Paul Marco said. "But we lost our focus and concentration defensively for that 11-minute stretch in the second half and it cost us. We got some players back from injuries today and I thought (freshman back) Oliver Svalander was our best player out there today. But again, we had that moment in the game where we just lost our focus."

Iona held a 20-11 advantage in total shots as well as a 7-3 edge in shots on goal.

Binghamton returns home to face Lehigh on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
