Women's soccer topples New Hampshire 2-0

Dibble collects second-half goal, assist; BU improves to 8-2-1, 2-0 in league play

DURHAM, N.H. - Junior forward and second-half substitute Sarah Dibble registered a goal and an assist to lift visiting Binghamton (8-2-1, 2-0 America East) to a 2-0 win over New Hampshire (5-5, 1-1 AE) Sunday afternoon from Wildcat Stadium.

The teams were scoreless for the first 68 minutes before BU tallied twice in the final 22 minutes to earn the win. The victory kept the Bearcats atop the conference standings and also snapped an eight-game winless streak against UNH.

With 22:01 left in the game, Dibble took a thru ball up the middle from classmate Dora Hayes and beat the UNH keeper for her first career goal. She had entered the game two minutes earlier and quickly made an impact. Hayes split two defenders with her pass and Dibble drilled a low shot through the legs of the rushing UNH keeper.

Then just 13:21 later, freshman midfielder Olivia McKnight deftly outmaneuvered a pair of UNH defenders on the left endline before delivering a ball into the middle. Dibble rang a shot off the left post but freshman forward Maya Anand was there to convert the rebound for the 2-0 cushion. It was Anand's first collegiate goal.

In back, sophomore keeper Haylee Poltorak made four saves and darted throughout the box to make several other plays on dangerous balls. She recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

"This team showed grit and heart today, as well as depth when a couple of substitutions really impacted the game," head coach Neel Bhattacharjee said. "It wasn't one of our best performances ... UNH had good pressure on us in our possession and we had to deal with turnovers and transitioning to defend. But despite that we found a way to still compete, keep a shutout and get three massive points on the road. We can be proud of this result for now but focus on recovery for what will be a very tough upcoming week, starting with another difficult road match at defending champion Albany."

Binghamton, currently riding a five-game unbeaten string, next heads to Albany for a Thursday night tilt.

NOTES
Binghamton snapped a four-game head-to-head losing streak and an eight-game winless streak against UNH. The Bearcats hadn't won in Durham since a 1-0 quarterfinal tournament victory in 2011 ... the team's eight overall victories now surpasses BU's win total from all of last season ... the two league wins already equals last season's total ... it's the first time in 18 years of America East play that the Bearcats have started conference play 2-0.
