The Binghamton University wrestling team lost its third straight dual match Sunday afternoon in Hempstead. The Bearcats fell to EIWA opponent Hofstra 25-11 despite holding a narrow lead early on. The loss moves the team to 1-3 in the conference.
Highlights
- Following a loss at 174 pounds to open things up, Lou DePrez dominated his bout en route to a major decision. With an early takedown, he nearly forced Charles small to medical forfeit in the fist period. Several minutes later, he walked away from a 12-0 victory.
- At 285 pounds, Joe Doyle trailed 2-0 early, but escaped and added a takedown to give him an edge. Hofstra's Zachary Knighton-Ward could not escape the strength of Doyle, and late back points gave Doyle the major.
- Anthony Sparacio rounded out the winners this afternoon with a 9-3 decision over Vinny Vespa. Sparacio was in control the whole way, and nearly got a takedown in the final seconds to get a major, but settle for the three points.
- True freshman Jacob Nolan fought hard in his season debut against Ricky Stamm (No. 12 according to Amateur Wrestling News), but fell 6-1.
