Women's Basketball Falls Short at Vermont 65-62

Moon scores 22 points but Bearcats unable to hold on to lead

BURLINGTON, Vt.  – Hanna Crymble scored a game-high 32 points, leading Vermont (8-9, 2-2 AE) to a 65-62 comeback win over Binghamton (12-5, 1-3 AE) in a America East women's basketball game on Wednesday night at Patrick Gym. The loss is the second straight setback for the Bearcats.

Crymble, who finished 11-for-25 from the floor and tied for the game high with nine rebounds, was the catalyst as Vermont rallied from double-digit deficits twice during the game.

Senior guard Kai Moon scored a team-high 22 points for Binghamton to go along with five rebounds and a pair of steals. Senior guard Carly Boland scored 13 points and added seven rebounds, two assists, a pair of blocks and two steals. Also finishing in double figures was sophomore forward Annie Ramil with 12 points.

Binghamton jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead just over three minutes into the game. The Catamounts, however, stormed back to take a 23-19 lead at the end of the first period. Crymble scored nine of her points during that stretch.

The Bearcats regrouped to take a 41-40 lead at the half and then surged ahead 55-44 with 2:08 left in the third period. From there, however, the Catamounts scored 11 straight points to tie the game at 55-55 with 7:00 left in regulation. Crymble punctuated the run with a three-point field goal.

The Catamounts went on to build a 63-59 lead with 2:15 left to go. Moon brought the Bearcats to within 63-62 on a three pointer with 1:57 remaining but that would the final points they'd score in the game.

Led by Crymble, the Catamounts finished with a 38-26 advantage in points in the paint. They also scored 19 points off of turnovers.

In the fourth period, Vermont hit eight of their 12 shots (67 percent) while the Bearcats connected on just two of their 15 attempts (13 percent).

Moon now has 17 career games with at least 20 points. She currently has 1,211 career points and remains in 10th place all time in program history. Karen McClelland (1996-00) is ninth with 1,227 points while Alicia Brennan is eighth with 1,229 career points.

Binghamton returns home for a Saturday game at noon against Maine.
