Binghamton (0-2) lost 67-57 at St. Bonaventure on Wednesday afternoon. Senior forward
Kaylee Wasco netted a team-high 16 points while sophomore forward
Clare Traeger pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Denai Bowman, meanwhile, finished with nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, a pair of blocks and a steal.
Bowman ranks second in the America East with 15.5 points per game while Traeger is tied for second with 10.5 rebounds per night. Bowman and sophomore forward
Birna Benonysdottir are both tied for first in the conference with 1.5 blocks per contest while Traeger is tied for third with 2.0 steals per game.
Stony Brook (2-2) is the defending America East champion. The Seawolves beat visiting Hofstra 63-52 in their most recent game on Monday night. McKenzie Bushie and Earlette Scott each scored a team-high 14 points in the win.
Asiah Dingle leads the Seawolves and ranks seventh in the America East with 13.0 points per game and is second with 3.3 assists per game. India Pagan is ninth in the conference with 5.8 rebounds per night. Hailey Ziese, meanwhile, is third with 1.3 blocks per contest.
Stony Brook leads the all-time series 26-23, having taken the past five meetings. Most recently, the Seawolves beat visiting Binghamton 57-42 in the America East semifinals back on March 8. The Bearcats' last win in the series was a 69-64 triumph at Stony Brook on Feb. 15, 2018.
In the Bearcats' first two games of the season, Traeger has pulled down 11 and 10 rebounds respectively. She is the first Binghamton player to reach double figures in rebounding two straight games since
Rebecca Carmody during the 2018-19 campaign.
Against Stony Brook last season, Bowman averaged 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game in a reserve role. She scored 12 points against the Seawolves on Jan. 22 at the Events Center.
Junior guard
Hayley Moore pumped in 12 points in the Bearcats' game at Stony Brook last season on Feb. 12. She went a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range in the process.
Binghamton has started at least three underclassmen in each of its first two games this year. Bowman and Traeger have been joined in the starting lineup by sophomore guard
Zahra Barnes. Benonysdottir started in the season opener against Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 2.
