COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Binghamton (0-4) continued play at the Texas A&M Aggie Classic on Saturday with a pair of setbacks. The Bearcats lost 10-2 to the host team in six innings and were defeated 5-2 by St. John's in the nightcap.
Against the Aggies, the Bearcats were down 2-0 but tied the game in the top of the third inning on a two-run single by sophomore designated player
Sophia Pappas. She now has a team-best three RBI for the weekend.
Texas A&M, however, came back with five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Ashlynn Walls had the decisive blow with a three-run home run.
From there, the Aggies scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning and ended the game when Makinzy Herzog homered to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning.
Ashley Daugherty improved to 1-0 with the win while senior pitcher
Rayn Gibson fell to 0-2 with the loss.
In the nightcap, St. John's jumped out to a 5-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first inning and three more runs in the fourth inning. Amelia DeTolvo had a RBI in each of the innings.
The Bearcats rallied with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Freshman outfielder
Tessa Nuss had a RBI single and sophomore second baseman
Marissa Braito scored on a throwing error.
Binghamton, however, left two runners on base in the sixth inning and went down in order in the seventh inning.
Angela Saric scattered two runs on five hits thru seven innings to improve to 1-0. The loss was tagged to senior pitcher
Rozlyn Price, who is now 0-1.
Nuss finished the second game 2-for-4 while senior outfielder
Stephanie Ragusa was 2-3.
Binghamton concludes play at the Texas A&M Aggie Classic on Sunday with a 10 am game against LaMar.
