ITHACA, N.Y. - The Binghamton University wrestling team fell to No. 17 Cornell by a score of 32-8 Saturday afternoon. The bout marks the teams penultimate dual of the 2019-20 season before EIWA Championships in March.
Highlights
- The dual kicked off at 141 pounds, with Anthony Sparacio taking on Noah Baughman. Sparacio led throughout, but Baughman hung around and capped it off with a late takedown for a 4-3 decision.
- The Big Red went on to win the next four matchups, including one via forfeit at 157 pounds.
- No. 5 Lou DePrez was able to stem the tide in demanding fashion. His 15-4 major decision over Jonathan Loew was his 21st victory of the season and put the Bearcats on the board.
- At 285 pounds, Joe Doyle turned a 2-1 advantage after the first into major decision territory in the second, getting four swipes on Seth Janney before another takedown. When it was all said and done, Doyle came away with an 11-2 major decision and notched his tenth dual win of the season.
- The hype around the 133-pound matchup proved to be true, as No. 9 Zack Trampe and No. 4 Chas Tucker thrilled the crowd in the match's final bout. Trailing 6-4 in the third, Trampe had a strong takedown to tie things up and send it to overtime. With time winding down in overtime, Tucker was able to knock Trampe off-balance and took him to the ground.
- Tucker won via sudden victory decision and improved to 26-0 on the season. The Big Red came away with a 32-8 victory.
