Women’s Basketball holds on to beat New Hampshire on Senior Day 66-64

Bearcats are No. 4 seed into AE Tournament, host Wildcats again on Wednesday

VESTAL, N.Y.  – Senior guard Kai Moon led four players in double figures, pacing Binghamton (21-8, 10-6 AE) to a 66-64 win over New Hampshire (10-18, 7-9 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the Events Center. The victory is the fifth straight for the Bearcats, who are the No. 4 seed for the upcoming America East Tournament and will square off against the Wildcats again at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The 21 wins represents the most victories by the Bearcats in a season since they went 22-7 in 2000-01 – their final season competing at the NCAA Division II level. In addition, with a 12-2 home record, Binghamton has won its most home games since moving into the Events Center during the 2003-04 season.

"I am proud of our team," head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "It was a tough game. New Hampshire brought it. They played a lot better since we last saw them. Nobody is going to lay down in this league."

Moon finished with 17 points to go along with three rebounds, four assists and two steals. Junior forward Olivia Ramil finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists. Freshman Denai Bowman added 13 points while senior guard Carly Boland had 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and a block.

The victory overshadowed a 25-point performance by Ashley Story of New Hampshire. She finished 10-for-16 from the field and buried three of her six three-point field goal attempts.

The Wildcats erased a 13-point Binghamton lead to go up 57-54 with 7:36 left in regulation. In the first 2:30 of the fourth period alone, New Hampshire outscored the Bearcats 8-1. Amanda Torres, who finished the game with 17 points, had four points during that stretch.

Bowman then took over during the next six minutes of the game as the Bearcats went on a 9-0 run to go up 63-57. She scored six of Binghamton nine points, which included a pair of free throws.

New Hampshire was within 64-61 with 17 seconds left to go but turned the ball over before taking a potential game-tying shot. Ramil then iced the game with a pair of free throws at the other end of the court.

New Hampshire outshot the Bearcats 49 percent (27-55) to 43 percent (25-58). At the free throw line, however, the Bearcats shot 74 percent (14-19) while the Wildcats were just 46 percent (6-13).

Led by Bowman, Binghamton finished with a 16-8 advantage in bench points.

Prior to the game, Moon, Boland and senior guard Karlee Krchnavi were honored during the program's annual Senior Day ceremony. The Bearcat trio has now combined for 2,696 points and 1,373 rebounds during their careers.

NOTE: Binghamton and New Hampshire have meet twice previously in the America East Tournament – both in the quarterfinal round. The Wildcats won 58-53 in 2002 but the Bearcats got even with a 67-53 triumph in 2011 … Boland is now tied with Alicia Brennan (1986-90) for sixth place all time in program history with 95 blocks ... the attendance of 2,077 was the Bearcats' largest single-game home attendance this season.
