Women’s Basketball Defeated 57-42 by Stony Brook in AE Semifinals

Moon and Olivia Ramil each net 11 points

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Anastasia Warren finished with 18 points and India Pagan added 14 points, powering Stony Brook (28-3) to a 57-42 win over Binghamton (22-9) in an America East semifinal game on Sunday afternoon at the Island Federal Credit Center. The Bearcats were making their first semifinal appearance since 2016 but were unable to stop the Seawolves from advancing to the conference championship game – where they will host Maine next Friday at 5 p.m.

The Seawolf defense – which is ranked No. 16 in the nation in points allowed per game (55.0 ppg.) held the Bearcats to their lowest point total of the season. Binghamton entered the game averaging a conference-best 67.4 points per game but shot just 32 percent for the game (17-of-53).

Senior guard Kai Moon and junior forward Olivia Ramil each finished with a team-best 11 points. Ramil, who finished the America East Tournament averaging 14.0 points per game, also had five rebounds and a pair of blocks against Stony Brook.

Up 22-16 at the half, Stony Brook broke the game open in the third period. The Seawolves outscored the Bearcats 15-9 to go up 37-25. Warren had five points and Pagan added four points during that stretch.

Binghamton got to within 45-37 on a layup by Ramil with 5:13 left in regulation. From there, however, the Seawolves iced the game with an 8-1 run over the ensuing 2:33 to go up 53-38. Warren had four points during that stretch.

"One game doesn't define a season but tonight was a tough one," head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "Our shots weren't falling and even though we were able to get some stops, we weren't able to string points together."

Sophomore forward Annie Ramil finished with eight points and five rebounds.

Kaela Hilaire added 11 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals in the winning effort.
