The Binghamton University wrestling team is set to take on LIU Thursday evening following a strong opening win over No. 25 Rider last weekend in Vestal. The Bearcats, who had six individual winners against the Broncs, will look to continue their winning ways against the Sharks.
What to Know
- Sophomore Jacob Nolan and redshirt freshman Cory Day are set to make their season debuts Thursday. Day, a converted 184-pounder, will wrestle at heavyweight. Nolan, an EIWA Championship starter from a season ago will wrestle at 174 pounds.
- Against Rider, Micah Roes, Anthony Sobotker, and Brevin Cassella each registered their first wins as Bearcats. Roes, who earned national recognition following his victory over No. 29 Jonathan Tropea, has cracked TrackWrestling's rankings (No. 33). He and Sobotker won by fall last weekend. All three newcomers will be in the lineup on Thursday.
- No. 4 Lou DePrez, No. 22 Zack Trampe and Michael Zarif also picked up victories for the Bearcats. DePrez's victory was the team's third pin of the evening and the match-clinching victory for Binghamton.
- Freshmen Alex Strashinsky, Collin Burns, Tyler Martin and Matt Kelly all made their Binghamton debuts last weekend. Martin was able to clinch a 5-3 decision in an extra match. Strashinsky will make his second consecutive start Thursday.
