Wrestling to take on No. 22 Army Saturday

Bearcats coming off back-to-back home wins, look to carry momentum into West Point

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton University wrestling team will head to West Point for a clash with fellow EIWA member Army Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats, coming off two consecutive strong home victories, will take on a 1-0 Black Knights team who finished third at last season's EIWA Championship.

What to Know

  • Binghamton boasts a lineup filled with early season success, including a combined 8-0 record from 125 pounds through 149 pounds thus far. 

  • The middle to heavy weights have also had success, contributing 25 team points through two matches. Leading the pack is No. 4 Lou DePrez, who has two pins in as many matches.

  • This week, four Bearcats were recognized in Trackwrestling's latest rankings. Alongside the aforementioned DePrez, 141-pounder No. 22 Zack Trampe has continued his run in 2021 with two wins. The two-time national qualifier has improved his career dual record to 15-4. 

  • Heavyweight Joe Doyle (No. 28) and 125-pound true freshman Micah Roes (No. 30) continue to garner national recognition.

A look at Army

  • The Black Knights will compete in their second dual of the season, following a 30-18 victory over Hofstra. 

  • Army is led by 157-pounder Marcus Hartman and heavyweight Ben Sullivan (both ranked No.17 by Trackwrestling). Hartman picked up two wins against LIU to kick off his 2021 campaign, but lost by fall against Hofstra's Holden Heller. Sullivan is 2-0, including a win over the Pride's Zachary Knighton-Ward.

  • 197-pounder J.T. Ward (No. 26) and 149-pounder P.J. Ogunsanya (No. 29) also received national recognition in the latest Trackwrestling poll.

  • 165-pound senior Beau Guffey is off to a 3-0 start in his first season as a starter for the Black Knights.
