BALTIMORE, MD. – Julian Conze finished with a goal and an assist, lifting UMBC (7-6-1, 2-3-0 AE) to a 2-0 win over Binghamton (7-4-1, 2-2-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer match on Wednesday night at the Retriever Soccer Park. The loss is the second straight setback for the Bearcats.
Conze and the Retrievers netted both goals in the opening 12 minutes of play. In the third minute, his corner kick was headed in by William Forby. Nine minutes later, he converted a penalty kick.
Redshirt goalkeeper
P.J. Parker kept the Bearcats within striking distance, as he saved a penalty kick by Conze in the 59th minute. He then made a save off the rebound. For the match, Parker finished with five saves.
Offensively, however, the Bearcats were never able to get a sustained attack going. They were out shot 13-6 for the game. Only two of their shots were on goal.
"We were out-competed tonight," head coach
Paul Marco said. "We didn't match the level of intensity that UMBC showed."
Binghamton travels to Hartford for a 4 p.m. match on Saturday.
NOTES: The last time a Binghamton goalkeeper saved a penalty kick came on Oct. 27, 2018. Chris Shutler stopped an attempt by Vermont.
