VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (8-5-2, 4-1-1 America East) looks to extend its unbeaten streak when first place BUÂ hosts Maine (3-6-2, 1-5 AE) at noon Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Â
The Bearcats are riding a four-game unbeaten streak and have a share of first place (with UMass Lowell) with three games remaining in the regular season. Binghamton is pushing for a top-two finish, which would carry a tournament quarterfinal bye and a subsequent home semifinal game. On Thursday night, BU played to a scoreless draw at Stony Brook — the team's sixth shutout of the season.
Coach
Neel Bhattacharjee's squad played its last game without its top-two goal and point producers in
Maya Anand (6 goals, 15 pts.) and
Olivia McKnight (4 goals, 10 pts.). Meanwhile, sophomore midfielder
Victoria McKnight leads the entire conference with four assists and BU's varied attack has led to nine different players scoring goals this season.Â
Binghamton leads the all-time series with Maine, 12-6-4 and has won four of the last five. Maine, however, won the most recent game - a 3-1 triumph in Orono in 2019. Fifteen of the 22 all-time matchups have been decided by one goal or less. Binghamton is 5-3-2 at home in the series. Â
The Black Bears sit in last place in the standings but are dangerous, as their 4-1 win over Stony Brook last Sunday shows. The four-goal outburst was more offensive firepower than the team had produced in its previous seven games combined. Four of Maine's conference defeats have come by the narrow 1-0 margin and the team's defense has only allowed two opponents to score more than a goal all season. In its last outing on Thursday, Maine hosted UNH and lost 1-0. They were outshot 23-10 and gave up the goal in the 30th minute. Freshman forward Abby Kraemer leads the team with three goals and seven points. Senior keeper Kira Kutzinski has a 1.14 goals against average
