Second-place Bearcats and Highlanders kick off at 1 p.m. Sunday in Newark

VESTAL, N.Y. - Winners of five of their last six, Binghamton women's soccer looks to continue its momentum when the Bearcats (7-5-1, 3-1 America East) travel to Newark to face NJIT (4-9, 2-2 AE) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

The Bearcats sit in second place in the America East standings, one win (3 pts.) behind league-leading UMass Lowell. Last week, BU posted wins over UMBC (4-1) and Hartford (1-0) and lifted the team's home record to 5-1.

Senior defender Nicole Scudero enjoyed a stellar week and took home BU Athlete of the Week and America East Defender of the Week honors. Scudero netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner against Hartford, and anchored a back line that limited two opponents to 10 combined shots and one goal in a 2-0 week.

Up front, junior forward Maya Anand has six goals and 15 points to pace the Bearcats. Anand ranks second in the league in goals, game-winning goals (4), assists (3) and points. Teammates Stefania Piantadosi and Victoria McKnight also share second place in assists (3) and junior midfielder Olivia McKnight (4 goals, 10 pts.) is seventh in the conference in goals and points.

In goal, senior Haylee Poltorak ranks second in goals against average (0.82), save percentage (.845) and shutouts (5).

NJIT showed its mettle with a 1-0 win over two-time defending conference champion Stony Brook two weeks ago, but then dropped a 2-0 decision at Vermont in its last outing. The team also owns a 1-0 win over Maine. The team's other conference loss was a 2-1 setback to undefeated league leader UMass Lowell.

The Highlanders offer a balanced attack with eight different players having registered goals this fall. Junior midfielder Bailey Chant leads with three goals and eight points. Junior keeper Molly Saylor owns a 1.53 goals against average and four shutouts. The team has been held to one goal or less in each of its last seven games. NJIT was picked to finish tied for eighth (out of 10) in the Coaches' Preseason Poll.

Binghamton has a 3-0 lead in the all-time series. Last season, BU posted a 4-1 home win over NJIT last spring. The Bearcats also won 3-1 in 2007 and 2-0 in 2008.
