With playoff berth on line, BU (4-1) faces Retrievers at 2 p.m. Friday in Baltimore

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (4-1, 3-1 America East) finishes up its regular season and plays for a postseason berth when the Bearcats face UMBC (1-3-1, 1-3 AE) Friday afternoon in Baltimore. The teams square off at 2 p.m. in a game broadcast on America East TV.

With a win, BU would clinch a berth in the four-team America East tournament, which begins with semifinal games on April 15. The top two teams from each of the two divisions advance to the tournament. The Bearcats sit in second place in Division "B" but can finish anywhere from first to third depending the outcomes of Friday's regular season finales across the conference.

Binghamton has won three in a row and four of five in the condensed spring season. During the three-match win streak, BU has outscored opponents 7-1 with the lone goal allowed entering the net directly via corner kick.

Reigning America East Offensive Player of the Week Olivia McKnight scored twice and added two assists in BU's 2-0 week last week and she now ranks fourth in the conference in points per game (1.20). Junior forward Stefania Piantadosi has a team-high three goals, including two game-winners.

Binghamton's back line has surrendered just three goals in five games with two shutouts.

In its most recent game last Saturday, UMBC lost 4-0 at Division "A" leader UMass Lowell. The Retrievers own a 1-0 win over NJIT and have losses to Stony Brook (3-1) and Albany (2-1). They have been held to two goals in five games this season. UMBC was picked to finish 10th in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The Bearcats hold a commanding 13-2-2 lead in the all-time series and have won three straight head-to-head (outscoring UMBC 8-0), including a 2-0 home win last Halloween in a torrential rainstorm in Vestal. The Retrievers' last win came at home in 2016 (3-1). Three of the last seven matchups have been decided by one goal.
