VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton track & field program has announced the addition of nine in-state standouts. The five women and four men will arrive on campus as freshmen in the fall.
On the women's side
Aubrey Runkle (Ontario Center, N.Y.) is a sprinter from Wayne Central High School. She placed second overall in the 400 hurdles at the 2019 New York State (NYS) Outdoor Championships and was third the previous year.
Her top times are 25.54 in the 200, 41.58 in the 300, 57.66 in the 400 and 1:02.66 in the 400 hurdles.
"Aubrey is a good all-around sprinter and was one of the best long hurdlers in New York as a sophomore," head coach
Mike Thompson said. "She will focus on the 400 hurdles at Binghamton, and has the ability to contribute in the long sprints as well."
Erin Waters (Mahopac, N.Y.) is a thrower from Lakeland High School. She won the hammer at the 2021 New York State Showcase.
Her top distance in that event is 148-10
"Erin is one of the top hammer throwers in New York and will focus on the hammer and weight throw in college," Waters said. "She has the potential to score at the conference meet early in her career."
Hillary Abankwa (Orangeburg, N.Y.) is a sprinter from Tappan Zee High School. She won the 400 at the 2021 Rockland County Championships and was third in the 300 at the 2020 indoor meet.
Her top times are 12.36 in the 100, 25.54 in the 200, 39.80 in the 300 and 57.99 in the 400.
"Hillary has been one of the top sprinters in New York the past couple of years," Thompson said. "She will make an immediate impact at the conference level in the long sprints and 4x100 and 4x400 relays."
Jessica Prentice (Staten Island, N.Y.) is a sprinter and jumper from New Dorp High School. She placed fourth in the 400 at the 2021 New York Relays.
Her top performances are 7.47 in the 55, 41.85 in the 300, 59.43 in the 400 and 16-11 in the long jump.
"Jessica is a solid sprinter who has also had success in the long jump," Thompson said. "She was recruited primarily as a long sprinter but has the ability to jump for us as well."
Lucciana Robertson (Lake Katherine, N.Y.) is a jumper from Onteora High School. She won the high jump at the 2021 New York State Showcase.
Her top height in that event is 5-6.
"Lucciana has been one of the top high jumpers in New York throughout her high school career," Thompson said. "She has the potential to become one of the best high jumpers in Binghamton history, and will contribute immediately at the conference level."
On the men's side,
Jaston Ormsby (Clifton Park, N.Y.) is a thrower from Shenendehowa High School. He placed second in the shot put at the 2021 New York State Showcase.
His top distances are 56-3 ¾ in the shot put and 142-3 in the discus.
"Jaston is an all-around thrower who is currently the top shot putter in New York," Thompson said. "He will continue to focus on the shot while putting more time into the hammer and weight in college."
Joe Cardascia (Harrison, N.Y.) is a sprinter from Harrison High School. He won the 400 at the Section 1, Class A Championships.
His top times are 21.94 in the 200 and 48.40 in the 400.
"Joe is an indoor All-American who will focus on the long sprints in college," Thompson said. "He will make an immediate impact at the conference level as an individual and member of both sprint relays and has shown the potential to become a top all-time 200/400 runner at Binghamton."
Oliver Madariaga (Fredonia, N.Y.) is a sprinter from Fredonia High School. He swept the 100, 200 and 400 titles at the 2021 Section 6, Class B championships.
His top times are 11.38 in the 100, 27.77 in the 200 and 50.01 in the 400.
"Oliver is a solid all-around sprinter who is starting to realize his potential in the long sprints," Thompson said. "He will add depth to our sprints group and has the potential to develop into a conference-level performer in the future."
Finally,
Robert Menocal (Bronx, N.Y.) is a thrower from Fordham Prep. He placed third in the discus at the 2021 New York Relays.
His top distances are 154-10 in the discus and 47-10 ½ in the shot put.
"Robert is a solid shot putter and one of the top discus throwers in New York," Thompson said. "He will focus on the discus in college, and will add the hammer and weight to his repertoire as well."
