Bearcat Alums to Compete at USATF Outdoor Championships

Mackay, Holt and Johnson to represent their alma mater on the national stage

VESTAL, The United States Track & Field Association (USATF) is hosting its 2025 Outdoor Championships this weekend and a trio of Binghamton alums are taking part in the four-day meet. They include 2024 Olympian Emily Mackey (Class of 2021), Eric Holt (Class of 2018) and recent graduate Marcus Johnson. The four day meet begins today and runs through Sunday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Mackay is entered in both the women's 1,500 and 5,000, Holt is set to run in the men's 1,500 while Johnson will compete in the men's 400 hurdles.

The first round of the men's 1,500 is tonight (Thursday) at 9:10 p.m. EST while the women's 1,500 first round follows at 9:32 p.m. EST. There are three heats of between 11-12 runs in both the men's and women's 1,500. Holt is in the men's second heat while Mackay is in the women's third heat. 

The top three finishers in each heat of the 1,500 - plus the next three fastest overall finishers - will advance to the finals. The finals of the women's 1,500 takes place on Saturday at 5:03 p.m. EST while the men's 1,500 will follow at 5:14 p.m. EST.

Johnson, meanwhile, runs in the first of three 400 hurdle heats on Saturday at 4:41 p.m. EST.. There are nine runners in each heat with the top two finishers in each heat - plus the next three fastest times - advancing to the finals. The finals are set for 4:43 p.m. EST on Sunday. 

The women's 5,000 has just one heat of 24 runners. That race is set for Sunday at 5:31 p.m. EST.

NBC will air the USATF Outdoor Championships live on Saturday and Sunday between 4-6 p.m. EST. The Peacock Network will also stream the final two days. The entire meet can be viewed on USATF.TV.
