Mackay and Holt to compete in 1,500 finals at USATF Championships

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton track & field alums Emily Mackay '21 and Eric Holt '18 continue their professional careers on Saturday as they compete in the finals of the 1,500 at the 2026 Toyota USATF Para National Championships, which are being held at Icahn Stadium in New York City. The men's final is set for 5:30 p.m. EST with the women's race to follow at 5:40 p.m. EST. 

The 1,500 finals is part of NBC's and the Peacock Network's coverage of the USATF Outdoor Championships on Saturday. The entire meet is also being streamed on USATF.TV. 

Racing in the first of three women's first-round heats on Thursday, Mackay was second with a time of 4:04.29. The top three finishers in each heat - plus the next three fastest times - advanced to the final round. Mackay posted the second-fastest time in the first round, trailing only Addy Wiley's 4:04.17. 

Holt, meanwhile, raced in the third and final heat of the men's preliminaries and was sixth with a time of 3:42.20. In the process, he snagged the third and final wild card spot in the finals. Holt's time was the sixth-fastest of the first round - with the top five times also coming from his heat.

Both Mackay and Holt advanced to the 1,500 finals at last year's USATF Outdoor Championships. Mackay was third overall in her race and in the process, advanced to the ensuing World Championships in Tokyo. Holt finished 12th in his event.

Mackay's 2026 campaign has been highlighted by her silver medal in the 3,000 at the World Indoor Championships back in March. That meet took place in Torun, Poland. Mackay advanced to that meet by capturing the 3,000 title at the USATF Indoor Championships the previous month. 

Currently, Mackay runs professionally for New Balance while Holt competes for Empire Elite.
