Bearcats and Bulls set for 7 p.m. kickoff at Soccer Complex

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (2-1-1) returns home after three straight games to host fellow SUNY school Buffalo (2-1) Sunday night. The in-state foes will meet at 7 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

The Bearcats had their three-game unbeaten streak end in Thursday night's 1-0 loss at ACC member Syracuse. Despite a wide shots disparity, BU had several chances to tie the game in the second half, when play was more even.

After three straight road games, the Bearcats are back home for just the second time in six games to start the season. Binghamton has four more non-conference games before America East play begins.

Junior forward Maya Anand is the reigning AE Offensive Player of the Week and leads the team with three goals and six points. Senior keeper Haylee Poltorak is the school's Athlete of the Week and boasts a 0.77 goals against average and two shutouts. She has limited opponents to just two goals in the last four games.

After eight days idle, Buffalo will be formidable, complete with all 11 starters and 22 letterwinners back from a team that went 6-1-1 in the spring. Two weeks ago, Buffalo pounded a Niagara team (6-2) that then defeated Syracuse 4-2 four days later. Picked to win the MAC, UB is led by returning All-American and MAC Offensive Player of the Year Marcy Barberic. She has three goals in three games this fall after scoring nine in the spring season. Barberic was named to the preseason "Watch List" for the Hermann Trophy, given to the nation's best player. Buffalo opened its season with a 4-0 setback at West Virginia. In its last outing on Aug. 27, UB scored twice in the second half and then earned the winner in overtime to defeat host Yale 3-2.

The teams have met just seven times head-to-head with Buffalo holding a 5-1-1 margin. They last squared off in 2016, playing to a 1-1 tie in Vestal. The prior year, Buffalo posted a 3-0 home win. Binghamton's lone victory in the series came in 2009 - a 1-0 road win.
