VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Buffalo (3-1) tallied the game's lone goal in the 20th minute and the Bulls held off Binghamton women's soccer (2-3-1) 1-0 Sunday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex.Â
Buffalo controlled play through much of the first half and got the game-winner when All-American Marcy Barberic redirected a cross from Alya Ruken into the lower right corner.Â
Binghamton brought a much stronger presence and attack in the second half and held a 7-5 edge in shots, but couldn't net the equalizer.Â
"It was a tale of two halves," head coach
Neel Bhattacharjee said. "I thought Buffalo was the better team in the first half. But then I thought we made some really good adjustments in the second half ... our effort was there and we had some fabulous chances. We just have to be a little sharper and put the ball in the back of the net. But we know Buffalo is a very good squad that will do very well in the MAC. It's a good building block and there are a lot of good things for us to take forward, especially from the second half."Â
The Bulls held a 10-8 shots edge for the game. Senior keeper
Haylee Poltorak made four saves for the Bearcats.Â
Binghamton hits the road for its fifth away game in seven contests when BU travels up to Hamilton to face Colgate on Thursday night. Â
