Women’s Basketball Heads to FAU Tournament

Bearcats to play host Owls on Friday, Butler on Saturday

STORY LINES

- Binghamton travels to the Florida Atlantic Thanksgiving Tournament for games against the host Owls (Friday at 4 p.m.) and Butler (Saturday at 2 p.m.). The other team in the tournament - whom the Bearcats will play - is Sacred Heart. 

- Binghamton (4-1) defeated Canisius 75-72 on Sunday afternoon and is off to its best start since going 5-0 to begin the 2019-20 season. Redshirt freshman guard Ella Wanzer, the current America East Rookie of the Week, netted a team-high and career-best 19 points in the victory. Senior guard Denai Bowman finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and a pair of blocks. Senior forward Clare Traeger notched her fourth career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore forward Genevieve Coleman added 10 points and nine rebounds.

- Wanzer leads the Bearcats and ranks No. 11 in the America East with 11.8 points per game. Traeger is tied for No. 12 in the conference with 11.4 points per game. She also ranks first in the America East and No. 22 in the nation with 10.8 rebounds per game. Bowman, meanwhile, is tied for No. 15 in the conference in scoring (11.0 ppg.). She is also first in the America East and No. 29 in the nation with 2.4 blocks per game.

- As a team, Binghamton ranks first in the America East in scoring (68.8 ppg.), three-point field goal percentage (.405), three-point field goal percentage defense (.162), rebounding (42.2 rpg.) blocks (5.40 bpg.) and assists (15.40 apg.). On the national level, Binghamton is No. 18 in three-point field goal percentage, eighth in three-point field goal percentage defense and No. 38 in blocks per game.

- Binghamton has posted the America East Rookie of the Week twice so far this season. In addition to Wanzer, fellow redshirt freshman guard Jadyn Weltz was chosen on Nov. 14. Weltz is current first on the team and second in the conference with 4.6 assists per game. She is also tied for seventh with 1.8 steals per contest. 

- Florida Atlantic (2-1) squares off against Binghamton for the first time in women's basketball. Most recently, the Owls defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 61-35 on Monday. Aniya Hubbard led a balanced attack with 15 points. Hubbard also leads the Owls in scoring so far this year with 11.3 points per game. 

- Butler (2-2) also tips off against Binghamton for the first time in women's basketball. The Bulldogs' last outing was a 72-55 loss to Tennessee State on Monday night. Rachel McLimore leads Butler in scoring with 13.7 points per game.
