BOCA RATON, Fla. – Butler (4-2) drained 13 three-point field goals and defeated Binghamton (4-3) 78-51 in the final round of the Florida Atlantic (FAU) Women's Basketball Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday afternoon at Baldwin Arena. With the setback, the Bearcats finish the tournament 0-2, having lost 51-41 to the host Owls on Friday.
The Bulldogs, who defeated Sacred Heart 69-34 in the opening round of the FAU Thanksgiving Classic, shot a blistering 56.5 percent from three-point range against Binghamton. They hit 13 of their 23 attempts from beyond the arc.
Rachel McLemore led a balanced Butler attack with 15 points. Anna Mortag finished with 14 points and Caroline Strande added 10 points.
Senior guard
Denai Bowman led the Bearcats with 13 points, shooting 6-for-8 from the field. She also finished with seven rebounds and three assists. For the weekend, Bowman finished with a team-best 13.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.
Also reaching double figures in scoring for the Bearcats was senior guard
Cassidy Roberts, who finished with 10 points. She went 5-for-8 from the field in the process.
Butler took a 22-16 lead after one period and then broke the game open with a 20-10 run in the second period to take a 42-26 halftime lead. Butler hit seven of its 11 three-point field goal shots in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Each team scored 15 points during the third period but Butler iced the game with a 21-10 run in the fourth period. The Bulldogs went 7-for-14 from the field during the final 10 minutes and canned three of their four three-point attempts.
"Our team played with such grit," head coach
Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "We never backed down and we didn't give up but Butler played the game of their lives from at the three-point line. This (tournament) wasn't the weekend that we expected but our kids stuck together and that's what I love about them."

Clare Traeger finished with eight points and six rebounds. Graduate student forward
Shannon O'Connor had five points while redshirt freshman guard
Jadyn Weltz chipped in four points, three rebounds and three assists.
Binghamton took care of the basketball against Butler, committing a season-low eight turnovers. On the boards, however, Butler finished with a 44-31 rebounding advantage.
Binghamton heads to Cornell on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
NOTES: Bowman now has 918 points for her career at Binghamton.
