Redshirt freshman guard honored for third time in her career

VESTAL, N.Y. – Redshirt freshman guard Ella Wanzer has been named the America East Rookie of the Week. It marks the third time in her career that she has earned the conference's weekly accolade.

Wanzer averaged 13.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists this past week. She scored a career-high 20 points on Dec. 3 against a Fairfield team that made the NCAA Tournament last year. Wanzer shot 9-of-20 from the field (.450) for the week and was 8-of-15 (.533) from beyond the three-point arc. For the season, she is averaging a career-best 10.8 points per game.

In the current America East rankings, Wanzer is No. 12 in scoring, first in three-point field goal percentage (.463) and second with 2.8 three-point field goals per game. At the national level, Wanzer ranks No. 40 in three-point field goals percentage and No. 43 in three-point field goals per game.

During the 2021-22 season, Wanzer played in eight games before sustaining a season-ending injury. She was granted a medical redshirt season but not before being named the America East Rookie of the Week on Nov. 29, 2021.

Binghamton has now posted the America East Rookie of the Week three times so far this season. In addition to Wanzer, fellow redshirt freshman guard Jadyn Weltz was chosen on Nov. 14.
Binghamton is at Siena tonight for a 7 p.m. game.
