WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Visiting Binghamton (7-18, 3-12 AE) erupted for 46 second-half points and defeated Hartford (2-24, 2-13 AE) 63-45 in an America East women's basketball game on Monday afternoon at the Reich Pavilion. The victory is the second straight for the Bearcats.
Junior forward
Birna Benonysdottir led all scorers with 19 points. She also added four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Benonysdottir continues to rank second in the America East with 14.7 points per game.
Senior guard
Hayley Moore tied her career high with 16 points. She was 4-for-7 from beyond the three-point arc and also tied her career high with seven rebounds.
Junior guard
Denai Bowman, meanwhile, finished with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals. She continues to rank third in the conference with 14.0 points per game.
In the first 20 minutes against Hartford, the Bearcats struggled to make shots. They were just 7-of-27 from the field in the first half and trailed 20-17.
With the score tied at 24-24 with 3:20 left in the third period, however, Binghamton went on a 10-2 run over the ensuing 1:50 to go up 34-26. Benonysdottir had a team-best four points and Moore swished one of her three-point field goals during that stretch.
Finally, the Bearcats closed out the game with a 27-point fourth period, shooting a scorching 71.4 percent from the field. They were 10-of-14 from the floor and drained all three three-point attempts.
Hartford was within 52-45 with 4:47 left in regulation but the Bearcats closed the game on an 11-1 run. Bowman led a balanced attack with four points during that span.
"I was happy with the way we came out and made our adjustments in the second half," head coach
Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "We were letting Hartford dictate the game during the first half but we got back to playing our game after that. To score 27 points in the fourth period and have three players score in double figures was great."

Clare Traeger netted eight points and tied Moore for the team lead with seven rebounds.
For the game, the Bearcats shot 41.8 percent from the field and were 6-of-14 from three-point range. Binghamton was also 9-of-12 from the free throw line. In addition, it finished with 15 assists compared to only 13 turnovers.
In the Bearcats' last two games, they have averaged 67.0 points.
Binghamton heads to Vermont on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game.
