VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's lacrosse dropped a home matchup to Cornell by a score of 18-4 Tuesday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bearcats scored three of the contest's first five goals, but were held to just one goal over the course of the final three quarters.
Kenn Newman led the way for BU, scoring two goals while Madison Murphy and Abigail Carroll each got on the scoresheet. Jesse Barer added an assist. Defensively, Gabrielle Marshall picked up five ground balls. Kelly Quinn and Sofia Afkham caused a turnover apiece.
The Bearcats began by scoring three times in the first six minutes. Murphy got the team on the board, and two straight goals by Newman and Carroll made it 3-2 in favor of BU.
From there, Cornell went on to score four of the games' next five goals, and the final 12 of the contest. Newman scored the final goal for Binghamton at the 12:58 mark in the second quarter.
Defensively, the visitors forced 15 turnovers to help turn the tide. The goalie duo of Katie McGahan and Ellie Horner made 12 saves to just four goals against.
BU's Sofia Salgado saw some time in goal, making five saves in just 21 minutes of action to close it out.
The Bearcats will hit the road against Mount St. Mary's Saturday. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
