Baseball drops rubber game at UML 4-1

Bearcats outhit River Hawks in road loss; Bade collects three hits to pace offense

LOWELL, Mass. - Binghamton baseball collected 10 hits but the Bearcats (4-15, 1-5 America East) were limited to one run in a 4-1 setback at UMass Lowell (7-14, 2-4 AE) Sunday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.

Binghamton held the hits edge (10-9) but all 10 were singles and BU left 10 stranded on the bases in dropping the rubber game of the weekend series.

The River Hawks scored one run in the fourth, two in the fourth and one in the sixth to build a 4-0 lead. The Bearcats plated their lone run in the seventh. Binghamton brought the tying run to the plate in each of the last two innings but couldn't cut into the margin.

Freshman third baseman Devan Bade (.340) went 3-for-4. Graduate center fielder Garrett Matheny went 2-for-4, as did junior second baseman Cavan Tully (.339) and freshman DH Evin Sullivan. Junior catcher Connor Aoki threw out three baserunners to keep the Bearcats close.

Four BU relievers combined to limit UML to one run on three hits over the final four frames. Sophomore Justin Rosner lowered his team-best ERA to 0.68 with a clean inning. Junior Jack Collins struck out the side in his one inning of work.

In the seventh, Matheny led off with a single and went all the way to third on a wild pitch. Freshman shortstop Isaiah Corry brought home Matheny with an RBI groundout.

Binghamton is scheduled to host Canisius in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon, though that game may be moved to Wednesday with cold temperatures in the forecast.
