Softball Finishes Fourth at America East Tournament

Bearcats defeated 3-0 by UMass Lowell in elimination game

VESTAL, N.Y. –Ryley White tossed a five-hit shutout and Ellie Frederick drove in a pair of runs, powering UMass Lowell (28-19) to a 3-0 win over Binghamton (22-23) in an America East Tournament game on Friday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the loss, the Bearcats finish the tournament in fourth place.

White, who was named second-team all-conference for the 2022 season, issued just one walk and struck out seven batters to improve to 16-6. She kept the Bearcats from getting a runner past second base.

Frederick, meanwhile, keyed a three-run bottom of the fourth inning that gave the River Hawks all of their runs for the game. She doubled home a pair of runs during the frame and scored one batter later on a double by Tori Muller.

The Bearcats got solid pitching from sophomore starter Allison L'Amoreaux, who did not allow an unearned run through four innings. Her record, however, fell to 9-11.

Senior pitcher Sophia Pappas came on in relief and tossed a pair of scoreless innings with four strikeouts. In the process, she concluded a stellar America East Tournament in which she was 2-0 with a 0.96 ERA. In 9.1 innings of work, she struck out 11 batters.

In the end, however, the Bearcats left all seven of their runners on base and a key defensive miscue led to all three River Hawk runs.

"I am proud of our team and how we competed not just today but during the week," head coach Jess Bump said. "White is an all-conference pitcher and she did a good job but we battled until the end with a young team and I couldn't be prouder."

Senior Makayla Alvarez went 2-for-3 in her final collegiate game. She ended the tournament with a .333 batting average (4-for-12) with a double, home run and two RBI.

Senior outfielder Chloe Morgan batted a team-best .462 (6-for-13) during the America East Tournament. She scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.

NOTE: Morgan and Pappas were named to the America East All-Tournament Team.
