VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer begins a stretch of three-road-games-in-eight-days when the Bearcats (1-1) travel to Poughkeepsie to face Marist (0-1-1) on Thursday. The teams will square off at 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium.
Binghamton is coming off a 2-0 home win over Temple Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats scored twice in the second half and withstood 17 shots to earn their first shutout of the young season. Seniors
Maya Anand and
Olivia McKnight tallied the goals. Anand struck just 46 seconds into the second half, heading in a cross from
Molly McClelland. Then in the 67th minute, McKnight finished off a solo surge deep in the box with a rebound goal. Â
Senior
Nicole Scott and sophomore
Kaitlyn Williams shared the shutout with each playing a half. Both made four saves and both intercepted numerous other dangerous balls in the box. On Monday, Scott was honored by the America East as its Defensive Player of the Week with two-game totals of 90 minutes played and no goals allowed. Scott began the season by keeping Buffalo off the board in the first half of BU's opening-game road loss.Â
Marist is playing its third straight home game to open the season. The Red Foxes began with a 2-2 tie against St. Bonaventure last Thursday and then dropped a 2-0 decision to Drexel on Sunday. Despite owning a commanding 27-5 shots margin in the opener against Bona, Marist needed a goal in the 74th minute to earn the draw. On Sunday, Drexel scored in the games third minute and then added an insurance goal in the 80th minute.Â
The Red Foxes were picked to share fifth place (out of 11) in the MAAC Preseason Poll. The team earned three preseason all-conference selections, including reigning MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year Natalie Kelchner. Marist went 5-7-3 and list in the MAAC quarterfinals last fall.
The two teams have only played three previous times with the series history dead even at 1-1-1. Binghamton won the last matchup, 1-0 at home in 2018. Marist won the lone game played in Poughkeepsie, 2-0 in 2012. Â
