ANNAPOLIS, Md.  - Binghamton wrestling fell to Navy, 19-18, at Alumni Hall on Sunday Afternoon. Micah Roes gave the Bearcats a 6-0 lead with his first pin of the season in 38 seconds against Grant Treaster. The Midshipmen won the next two bouts to tie the dual at 6-6. Binghamton quickly reclaimed the momentum by winning the next three matches. Michael Zarif won a decision at 149 pounds to put the Bearcats back in front, 9-6. Conner Decker extended the lead for the Bearcats to 12-6 with a decision at 157 pounds. Brevin Cassella won his fourth consecutive dual match by decision at 165 pounds to increase the lead to 15-6. Navy responded with a pin at 174 pounds to get within three points, but Jacob Nolan answered for Binghamton with a 3-0 decision at 184 pounds to put the Bearcats up 18-12. Navy picked up a major decision at 197 to make the score 18-16. In the battle of ranked heavyweights, Navy's Grady Greiss won a 7-0 decision to clinch the dual for the Midshipmen. 

Highlights
  • In the dual opener at 125 pounds, Micah Roes had a sensational performance to give the Bearcats an early 6-0 lead. Roes scored an instant takedown and locked up a cradle for the pin in 38 seconds against Grant Treaster. 
     
  • At 149 pounds, Michael Zarif scored a takedown in in each period to claim an 8-3 decision against Kaemen Smith. 
     
  • Conner Decker scored a first period takedown and accumulated 2:07 of riding time in the opening period at 157 pounds. Decker stayed tough on top for the remainder of the match as he defeated Devon Deem, 4-0. Decker picked up his 10th win of the season and has won in three of the last four dual matches.
     
  • Brevin Cassella extended his win streak to four with a 4-2 decision against Val Park at 165 pounds. Cassella racked up 1:39 of riding time in the bout. Cassella improved to 9-4 on the season.
     
  • No. 19 Jacob Nolan prevailed with a 4-0 decision at 184 pounds against Cael Crebs. Nolan picked up his 13th win of the season and improved to 10-4 in duals.

Up Next

Binghamton will host Princeton in the Events Center on Saturday, February 4 for the final home dual of the season. The match will begin at 5 p.m.
