Men's basketball holds off Army 75-68

Chenery, Torrence combine for 43 points as BU wins for fourth time in last five games

VESTAL, N.Y. – Guards Tymu Chenery and Symir Torrence combined for 43 points and Binghamton men's basketball (4-3) never trailed in a 75-68 win over visiting Army (0-6) Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The win was BU's fourth in its last five games.

The Bearcats led by as many as 19 points in the second half before the Black Knights doubled up BU over an 11-minute span (32-16) to pull within three points, 71-68, with 41 seconds left. But Binghamton made four free throws in the final 0:33 to hang on. The Bearcats left the door open by missing 12 free throws, seven in the final four minutes.

Up 71-68, Chenery made one free throw with 33 seconds left and after an Army 3-point miss, senior Nehemiah Benson made a pair of free throws and then blocked Army's 3-point attempt on the defensive end, following with another foul shot with 0:03 left to finish the scoring.

"Army played hard for 40 minutes, which we need to get better at doing," head coach Levell Sanders said. "We lost our focus there. We have to get better at making free throws because that will bite us."

Torrence scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half, when BU shot 52 percent and used a 21-9 run to build a 37-25 intermission edge. Chenery then took over in the second half, tallying 15 of his game-high and career-high 23 points in the second half. Benson finished with 10 points.

Binghamton next heads to Hamilton, N.Y. to face three-time reigning Patriot League champion Colgate on Wednesday.
