EASTON, Pa. - Binghamton women's lacrosse defeated Lafayette, 19-10, on Wednesday evening at Fisher Stadium. Abigail Carroll scored four goals, while Olivia Muscolino, Kenna Newman, and Marisa Tancredi all registered three goals. Hayley Weltner recorded a game-high 11 draw controls. Weltner tied Sofia Afkham (2019-22) with the highest total for a single game in Binghamton history. Angelina Suau had a game-high six groundballs.
"We are very excited to get our first road win of the season and string together a really complete game," said head coach Stephanie Allen. "Both sides of the ball came to compete tonight. We successfully executed in those areas we have been focusing on in practice. Great focus and effort by the entire team,"
The Bearcats started fast with four goals from four different players in the first six minutes of the contest. Hayley Weltner scored 33 seconds into the game with a free position attempt. Less than two minutes later, Marisa Tancredi scored her second goal of the season. Abigail Carroll sprinted from midfield in transition and added another quick goal for the Bearcats. Binghamton converted another free position attempt courtesy of Kristen Scheidel with 9:36 left in the first period. Scheidel's goal gave the Bearcats a 4-0 lead and all of the early momentum. Lafayette countered with two goals in 20 seconds to cut the deficit to 4-2 with 3:38 left in the opening period. The Leopards cut the deficit to one with 1:07 left in the first period.
Binghamton started fast in the second period and quickly recaptured the momentum with five unanswered goals. Olivia Muscolino scored her seventh goal of the season to give the Bearcats a 5-3 lead with 13:51 remaining in the second. Carroll scored her second goal at the 10:31 mark to extend the lead to three. Muscolino added her second goal just over a minute later to increase the lead to 7-3. Kenna Newman tallied her first goal of the game with 8:05 left in the second period to put the Bearcats up by five. After Lafayette responded with goal, With less than 30 seconds left in the half, Hayley Weltner hit both posts, but the ball managed to find the back of the net for her second goal of the game.
Binghamton broke the game open in the third period outscoring Lafayette, 7-4. The Bearcats received goals from five different players in the period. Carroll found the back of the net twice, while Isabella Meli, Muscolino, Newman, and Tancredi each scored a goal in the period.  Binghamton had a commanding 16-7 lead entering the fourth period. In the fourth period, the Bearcats had three goals from three different players, Muscolino, Newman, and Emma Conroy.
Emily Manning had another strong performance in the cage. Manning made a season-high 12 saves.Â
The Bearcats travel to Niagara to face the Purple Eagles on Sunday, March 5 at 1 p.m.
