Baseball keeps rolling, blanks Cornell 6-0

Roselli belts 2-run home run, drives in three; BU extends win streak to six, has won 14 of last 17

VESTAL, N.Y. - Sophomore second baseman Nick Roselli drove in three runs and seven pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as Binghamton baseball (18-10) stretched its win streak to six with a 6-0 win over visiting Cornell (4-19) Tuesday night at the Bearcats Baseball Complex. Binghamton has now won 14 of its last 17 games and improved to 13-1 at home this spring.

The Bearcats scored twice in the first, twice in the third and added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to complete the scoring. Meanwhile, freshman starter Dan McAliney (2.0 IP), junior Justin Rosner (2.0 IP) and five other BU relievers kept the Big Red off the board. McAliney earned his first collegiate win. Binghamton pitchers have now thrown 19 consecutive scoreless innings spanning three games.

Senior first baseman Kevin Gsell got things started in the first inning. Senior left fielder Cavan Tully led off with a single and junior center fielder Tommy Reifler was hit by a pitch, setting the table. After both runners moved up on a groundout, Gsell delivered a two-run single up the middle.

In the third, Gsell singled with one out and Roselli followed with a two-run line drive homer that bulleted into the BU bullpen. It was his fourth home run of the season. Roselli added a two-out RBI single in the sixth to give him 11 RBI in his last seven games.

In the seventh, Reifler roped an RBI double down the left field line to plate BU's final run. That hit scored junior right fielder Christian Perez, who had led off with a walk.

The Bearcats (5-1 America East) remain at home to welcome league-leading Maine (9-0 AE) to the Complex for a key weekend series beginning Friday afternoon.
