Men’s Soccer Defeat St. Bonaventure 3-1 in Home Opener

Green finishes with a goal and an assist

VESTAL, N.Y.  — Graduate midfielder Jack Green scored one goal and added an assist, leading Binghamton (1-3-0) to a 3-1 victory over St. Bonaventure (1-2-1) in a non-conference men's soccer game at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Bearcats have now gone 11-5-1 in home openers since moving into their current facility in 2007.

Green now has a team-best two goals, two assists and six total points so far this season. The three points against St. Bonaventure set his career high.

After a scoreless first half of the game, redshirt senior midfielder Anthony Lazaridis scored the first goal of the game just three minutes into the second half. Graduate back Michael Bush fired a long cross that Lazaridis one timed into the net.

In the 62nd minute Green scored an unassisted goal, padding the lead to 2-0.

Three minutes after Green's goal, Rashid Aroza brought the Bonnies back into the game with his second goal of the year. The assists were credited to Bo Drath and Rafeal Periera.

Senior midfielder Markos Touroukis, however, added another goal off a rebound from Green in the 77th minute, sealing the victory.

"Perhaps the best thing that came out of today was that our competitive spirit showed for 90 minutes which was quite good," head coach Paul Marco said. "I think we were more useful today with the soccer ball than we've been, I thought we played a little more soccer. Bonaventure presented some good problems and I thought our backs dealt pretty well with them."

The Bearcats outshot the Bonnies 17-7 and finished with a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.

The Bearcats will host Lafayette on Saturday at 6:07 p.m.

NOTES: Today's match marked the second time Binghamton faced St. Bonaventure in its home opener, with the Bearcats emerging victorious both times. The first time was Aug. 30, 2021 in which Binghamton won 2-1.
