VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer begins a busy stretch of three-games-in-eight-days when the Bearcats (4-5-2, 1-2 America East) host Bryant (4-5-3, 2-1 AE) on Sunday. The cat-v-dog tilt begins at 1 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Binghamton has been idle for nine days after its riveting 4-3 comeback win over UMBC on Oct. 3. The Bearcats now play three of their next four at home as they look to climb from sixth place in the America East standings. There are five regular season games remaining before the conference playoffs begin the first week in November. After beginning league play by facing the top two undefeated teams in the standings (Maine and UNH), Binghamton has an opportunity to finish with a flourish as they put their two-time regular season champion status on the line.
Senior forward
Hannah Mimas leads the Bearcats with five goals and five assists. She leads the conference in assists and ranks third in points (15). Freshman forward
Jahkaya Davis has three goals in her last three games and leads all America East freshmen in goals and points. She is the reigning America East Rookie of the Week after netting a pair in Binghamton's win at UMBC.
Bryant has won two of its first three conference games and sits in third place in the standings. The Bulldogs beat NJIT (4-3) and UAlbany (2-0) before losing to Maine (3-1) last Sunday. Bryant was picked to finish seventh (of nine) in the Coaches' Preseason Poll.
Binghamton leads the all-time series 4-1-2. The teams played to a 1-1 draw last October in Smithfield, R.I. In that game, the Bearcats peppered the Bryant defense with 25 shots and 12 corner kicks but had to settle for the tie after the host Bulldogs took an early advantage via penalty kick. Two years ago in Vestal, Binghamton prevailed 1-0 on a first-half goal.
