VESTAL, N.Y. - Junior
Lauren Clark and senior
Hannah Mimas tallied second-half goals to pace Binghamton women's soccer (5-5-2, 2-2 America East) in a 2-1 comeback win over visiting Bryant (4-6-3, 2-2 AE) Sunday afternoon at rain-soaked Bearcats Sports Complex.
Trailing at half for the second straight game despite a commanding first period, Binghamton rallied for an important win that lifted the team into a tie for third place in the standings halfway through league play. The Bearcats have four games remaining - all against teams below them in the standings. Â
"I'm really pleased ... it's a big three points and gets us back to .500 in conference play," head coach
Neel Bhattacharjee said. "We're in a decent spot halfway through conference play and we'll keep going from here."
Despite a huge disparity in shots (14-3) and possession, the Bearcats found themselves down at half after the Bulldogs scored with 1:08 left in the period.Â
But Binghamton kept its poise in a steady rain, got the equalizer from Clark in the 57th minute and then the game-winner from Mimas in the 73rd minute.
Clark's goal was her second in as many games and came after senior midfielder
Alex Marsteller sent a ball into the box. The ball was eventually knocked back toward Clark by sophomore wing back
Megan Baker. Clark struck a beautiful 16-yard right footer that rippled the top netting.Â
Sixteen minutes later, Mimas persevered for the winner - her team-high sixth of the season. Baker finished a strong run into the box on the right and sent a ball to Mimas, whose initial shot was cleared away off the goal line. But the rebound squirted out to the penalty spot, where Mimas raced over and drilled a 12-yard shot low to the left corner.Â
  Â
"The first half we were terrific ... we did exactly what we wanted to do in our game plan," Bhattacharjee said. "Perhaps we could've had a little more quality with our final pass and finishing on frame. It was a very unfortunate goal we gave up before half. But in the second half we really didn't change a whole lot and we knew one goal down with 45 minutes to go ... if we play with that quality ... we would get chances. And that was the case ... we were able to get a couple of goals and finish off the game."
Binghamton held a 23-8 shots advantage and earned six corner kicks.Â
The Bearcats next host NJIT on Thursday.Â
