Bearcats and Great Danes meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in playoff tuneup

VESTAL, N.Y. - With a postseason berth and home playoff game already assured, Binghamton women's soccer will look to finish the regular season strong when the Bearcats (6-5-4, 3-2-2 America East) play at UAlbany (3-11-1, 2-4-1 AE) Thursday night. The teams continue their longstanding SUNY rivalry at 7 p.m. at Bob Ford Field.

Binghamton has secured a top-4 spot in the standings and can finish third with a win over the Great Danes. Either way, Bing will host a quarterfinal game at the Bearcats Sports Complex Sunday afternoon. The team is riding a five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-2) but is coming off a disappointing 3-3 draw with UMass Lowell on Sunday in a game the Bearcats led 3-0. The team has clicked offensively of late with 13 goals during the unbeaten stretch (2.6/game).

Senior forward Hannah Mimas leads the Bearcats with seven goals, eight assists and 22 points. The point total is tied for sixth-highest in program history and Mimas' eight assists is the second-highest total and the most assists any Bearcat has totaled in 18 years. She leads the America East in assists, ranks second in points and third in goals. Freshman midfielder Anna Buckwalter has been equally impressive with five goals and 13 points - both tops among conference freshmen. Buckwalter is the frontrunner for America East Rookie of the Year after earning a record five weekly honors among freshmen.

UAlbany has been eliminated from postseason contention after dropping its last two games - both by shutout. The Great Danes have surrendered more than two goals a game this season but showed well in narrow 1-0 defeats to the top two teams in the conference, UNH and Maine. Albany's two conference wins came over UMass Lowell (3-2) and NJIT (3-1).

Since both teams elevated to the NCAA Division I level, Binghamton leads the head-to-head series 12-8-5. They have played to draws in each of the last two matchups, including a 1-1 tie last September in Binghamton. The Bearcats lead 8-4-1 in games at Bob Ford Field.
