Men’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Tie Against UAlbany on Senior Day

Bearcats remain in sixth place in the AE with one match remaining

VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Billy Clark scored in the 33rd minute as Binghamton (8-6-3, 2-3-1 AE) battled to a 1-1 tie against UAlbany (4-11-2, 1-4-1 AE) in an America East men's soccer match on Friday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the deadlock, the Bearcats now have a two-point lead for the sixth and final spot in the upcoming conference tournament. Binghamton travels to first-place Vermont on Tuesday at 6 p.m. for its final regular-season contest.

Clark, who was one of nine graduating players that were honored during the Bearcats' annual Senior Day ceremony, tipped in a shot by junior forward Lucas Constante. It was his first goal of the season and deadlocked the match at 1-1.

Eight minutes earlier, the Great Danes took a 1-0 lead when Ander Castillo finished off a cross by Timo Jansen. He now has eight goals so far this year.

After being out shot 7-5 during the opening 45 minutes of play, the Bearcats picked up the tempo in the second half, evening the final shot count at 13-13.

Shots on goal favored UAlbany by a 6-4 margin. Graduate student goalkeeper Dylan McDermott, however, made five saves to preserve the draw.

"I thought both teams were extremely competitive because there was a lot on the line tonight," Binghamton head coach Paul Marco said. "We made saves and they made saves and there was plenty of end-to-end action. But overall, I am kind of disappointed - especially with the goal we allowed. Still, I thought we did a better job in the second half. In the end, it was a fair result but I thought we could have been a little bit better tonight."

Heading into Tuesday match at Vermont, the Bearcats have seven points in the conference standings. They lead UMass Lowell (five points) and the Great Danes (four points) in the chase for the final playoff spot. Sitting ahead of Binghamton is Vermont (13), New Hampshire (11), UMBC (10), Bryant (nine) and NJIT (eight).

In addition to Clark and McDermott, there were seven other graduating players honored during the pregame Senior Day ceremony. They included Carlo Cavalar, Chris Comber, Mael Lopes, Sean Fitzgerald, Charlie Kaldor, Ramsey Tilgner and Tom Cohen.
