VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer begins its postseason on Sunday when the third-seeded Bearcats (7-5-4) host sixth-seeded Vermont (8-5-4) in an America East quarterfinal game at 1 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex. It's a matchup featuring the top two offensive teams in the conference.
The Bearcats are making their sixth straight postseason appearance. Binghamton closed the regular season on a six-game unbeaten streak — the second-longest streak to end the regular season and third-longest overall in the program's 24-year Division I history (2001 had 10-game, 2023 had nine). During the streak (4-0-2), Binghamton has scored 17 goals (2.8/game), including three or more in three straight games. Head Coach
Neel Bhattacharjee's program has advanced to the semifinals in three of last five years. The Bearcats have the No. 3 seed for just second time and are 1-0-1 (2005). In the last five years of America East regular season play, Binghamton has lost just seven times (23-7-8, 71%)
Senior forward and first team all-conference selection
Hannah Mimas is first in America East in assists (8), second in pts (22) and third in goals (7). Senior striker
Mackenzie Ryder is tied for fourth in America East in goals (6).
Anna Buckwalter became the first freshman in conference history (34 years) to claim five weekly honors and was a second team all-conference selection. First team all-conference defender
Sophia Garofalo anchors Binghamton's back line.
Vermont has been idle for a week after having the final bye of the regular season. The Catamounts feature the league's leader in goals (12) and points (28) in first team all-conference midfielder Bailey Ayer.
Two weeks ago, Bearcats beat Vermont 3-0 on Oct. 20 in Burlington. The teams have met just once in America East tournament history and Vermont prevailed 1-0 in the 2017 semifinals at Bearcats Sports Complex. Binghamton leads the head-to-head series 14-10 and has won six straight over Vermont.
The winner advances to face No. 2 New Hampshire in the semifinals Thursday night in Durham.
