VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's basketball continues a torrid four-games-in-nine-days season-opening pace when the Bearcats (0-1) host former Division III SUNY rival Oneonta at 5 p.m. Thursday at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The men's game begins a basketball doubleheader that concludes with the Bearcat women hosting Akron at 7:30 p.m.
Binghamton opened its season with a 108-66 loss at Big Ten member Penn State on Monday. Sophomore guard
Evan Ashe led three Bearcats in double-digits with 16 points, but the Nittany Lions forced 21 turnovers, built a 31-point halftime lead and posted the win at the Bryce Jordan Center. Graduate guard
Tymu Chenery and senior guard
Chris Walker added 13 and 12 points, respectively.Â
SUNY Oneonta returns two of its top three scorers from a 13-14 team that went 9-9 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons lost in the conference semifinals to eventual champion and NCAA tournament team New Paltz. The 2024-25 team returns a pair of all-conference selections, including local product Xavier Hill, who starred at nearby Johnson City High. Hill averaged 13.5 points and a team-best 8.7 rebounds and produced 10 double-doubles last season. Oneonta went 17-9 two years ago.Â
After Thursday, Binghamton braces for a tough extended road trip that will take the Bearcats to Miami to face the ACC member Hurricanes on Sunday and then two days later, another test against Atlantic 10 member Fordham in the Bronx. Â
