Women’s Basketball Defeated 82-61 at St. Bonaventure

Middleton nets 17 points, Pucci adds 15 points

OLEAN, N.Y. – Host St. Bonaventure (1-0) shot 59 percent from the field (31-of-53) and drained 13 three-point shots, sparking its 81-62 victory over Binghamton (2-1) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center. The game marked the Bearcats' first road contest of the year.

The Bonnies, who also shot 67 percent (16-of-24) in the second half alone, had four players reach double figures in scoring. Isabellah Middleton finished with a game-high 19 points while Mackenzie Pettinelli added 14 points. Dani Haskell added 12 points while Zoe Shaw chipped in 11 points.

Binghamton was led by sophomore guard Leah Middleton, who scored a career-high 17 points. She was 6-of-11 from the field, drained a pair of three pointers and made both her free throws.

Fellow sophomore guard Bella Pucci added a career-high 15 points off the bench, shooting 5-of-8 from the field and sinking all three of her free throws. She also tied for the game high with three steals.

Sophomore forward Kendall Bennett grabbed a game-high eight rebounds - four which came on the offensive end. She also chipped in five points.

The Bearcats were up 10-9 with 4:53 left to go in the first period. The Bonnies closed out the quarter on a 12-5 run to go up 21-15. Haskell and Middleton each scored five points during that stretch.

Binghamton was within 41-34 with 9:27 left in the third period but the Bonnies broke the game open with eight unanswered points over the ensuing 1:42. Pettinelli had four points during that stretch.

From there, the Bonnies' lead remained in double figures the rest of the game. They closed out the game with a 10-1 run during the final four minutes of play.

"Give (St. Bonaventure) credit," head coach Mary Grimes said. "They came out and played their game today. But I am proud of how our players kept fighting even though St. Bonaventure kept making their shots. One game does not define us and the season is a marathon and not a sprint."

Redshirt junior guard Jadyn Weltz added eight points for the Bearcats.

Binghamton travels to Cornell on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.
