Women’s Basketball Defeated by Syracuse 87-60

Boyd nets team-best 13 points, Bearcats set season-high with 10 three pointers

VESTAL, N.Y. –  Georgia Woolley scored a game-high 18 points, leading Syracuse (5-6) to an 87-60 win over Binghamton (6-5) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Wednesday night at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The game marked the Bearcats' second and final home contest of the season against a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Woolley shot 6-for-10 from the field and was 3-for-4 from both three-point range and the free throw line. She also finished with six assists, three blocks, four rebounds and a steal.

Woolley was one of four Orange players to reach double figures in scoring. She was joined by Journey Thompson (12), Sophie Burrows (11) and Izabel Varejão (11).

Sophomore guard Yanniah Boyd led the Bearcats in scoring 13 points. Fellow sophomore guard Kaylee Krysztof and redshirt junior guard Jadyn Weltz also reached double figures, with 12 and 11 points respectively. Sophomore guard Bella Pucci, meanwhile, grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, scored nine points and dished out four assists.

Binghamton was within 19-17 with 3:40 left in the first period. Syracuse, however, went on an 8-0 run to take a 10-point lead at the end of the quarter.

The Bearcats battled back to get within 45-38 with 9:23 left in the third period. Midway through the third period, the Orange blew the game open with a 15-0 run in a span of 5:04 to take a 63-41 lead with 3:16 left to go. Five different Syracuse players scored during that stretch.

Syracuse then built its lead to as high as 77-45 with 7:46 left in regulation.

For the game, Syracuse shot 50 percent from the field (35-of-70). The Orange also held a commanding 48-22 lead in points in the paint and scored 27 of its points off of turnovers.

Binghamton, meanwhile, made a season-high 10 three-point field goals and shot 44 percent from three-point range (10-of-23). It marked the Bearcats' highest total since they also canned 10 three pointers against New Hampshire on Jan. 25, 2024.

"Give Syracuse credit," head coach Mary Grimes said. "They came ready to play tonight. I asked our team to shoot threes tonight and I was proud of them for making 10. We also scored 60 points against a very good team. But we made a lot of turnovers and (Syracuse) took advantage of them."

Junior forward Camryn Fauria added seven points, five rebounds and two assists.

Binghamton hosts Molloy on Friday at 6:07 p.m.

NOTES: Binghamton's other ACC opponent to visit the Events Center this year was Pittsburgh back on Nov. 17 ... Krysztof's four three-point field goals ties her career high ... Pucci has now reached double figures a team-best two times so far this season.
